The City of Phoenix is hosting a series of fun family events to Halloween and the coming of the fall season. Most are free or very low cost. Check out their Calendar of Events for a full schedule of events and activities at Phoenix parks, preserves and centers.
• Oct. 26, 6 to 9 p.m., Scare Fair, Desert West Community Center, 6501 W Virginia.
This event features a Haunted House ($1 admission for kids ages 6 and up) free carnival games, concessions and 50 cent popcorn, water, candy bars and other snacks. More information is available by phone at 602-495-3700.
• Oct. 26 -28, 6 to 9 p.m., Haunted Hayride at South Mountain Park, South Mountain Park/Preserve:
This family event features a spooky ride on a horse-drawn wagon through Box Canyon. $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. The event begins in the parking lot of the South Mountain Activities Complex, 10409 S. Central Ave. This is a privately produced event presented by South Mountain/Laveen Village Festivals Inc. • Oct. 27, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Fall Festival, Sunnyslope Park, 802 E. Vogel.
Activities include entertainment, relay games, bounce houses, community resource booths and giveaways, health screenings, face painting and a costume parade. More information is available by phone at (602) 262-6661.
• Oct. 27, 6 to 9 p.m., Boo Fest `12, Beuf Community Center, 3435 W Pinnacle Peak Rd .
This free event features a horse drawn hayride for the whole family; pumpkin patch for kids up to age 15; inflatable bouncers; climbing wall; carnival games; live entertainment; costume parade with judging; and a goodie bag for each child between the ages of 1 and 15. This year’s event is being produced in partnership with Emily’s Toys for Joy, a local non-profit who collects toys for hospitalized children in the valley. Donate a new toy at the event and receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win some great prizes. More information is available by phone at (602) 534-4754.
• Oct. 27, 2 to 10 p.m., Hallowe'en & Annual Zombie Walk, Heritage & Science Park, 115 N. Sixth St.
This free family friendly event features live music, Easley’s Lil’ Zombie Zone, Downtown Ambassadors Carnage Carnival, Rose & Crown Beer Garden with Four Peaks Brewing Company, Most Valuable Zombie contest, food vendors, makeup artists, retailers, bloodmobile, food drive and one of the largest zombie hordes in the continental United States. The Rosson House Museum will also be open for ticketed tours during the celebration with a special exhibition. The annual Zombie Walk will leave from Historic Heritage Square at dusk and return one hour later.
